By Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Monday, with skies turning dark by mid-morning as monsoon activity remained strong over the region.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain and thunderstorms for Delhi-NCR, with heavy showers also expected in parts of Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana.
In Madhya Pradesh, a strong weather system triggered heavy rainfall across the eastern part of the state, prompting an orange alert for Dindori and Balaghat districts.
The IMD has forecast that Dindori and Balaghat could receive between 4 and 8 inches of rainfall as the weather system continues to move through the region.
Odisha is also expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days, while subdued rainfall activity is likely to continue over peninsular India over the next week.
The monsoon remains active across multiple regions of the country, with alert systems in place for heavy rainfall in several states through the week.
An orange alert signals authorities to remain prepared for disruptive weather, a step below the more severe red alert reserved for extremely heavy rainfall events.
The IMD’s district-level rainfall forecasts are updated multiple times a day and are used by state disaster management authorities to plan ahead of expected heavy spells.
Residents in the affected districts of Madhya Pradesh have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with local administration alerts as the rainfall spell continues.
The IMD also flagged the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds accompanying the rain in several districts, a pattern consistent with the active monsoon trough currently positioned over central India.
The IMD’s Delhi forecast bulletin, issued at 9:15 am on Monday, projected continued unsettled weather for the capital over the coming days as the wider system moves across the region.
Similar heavy-rain spells have periodically disrupted road and rail movement across north India through this monsoon season, underlining the need for continued vigilance from commuters and local authorities alike.
