India’s benchmark indices closed higher on Friday, with the Sensex gaining 330.92 points, or 0.43%, to end at 77,264.51 as IT shares surged.
The Nifty50 rose 84.80 points, or 0.35%, to close at 24,175.65, snapping a two-day losing streak for the broader market.
The Nifty IT index rose more than 3% during the session, the day’s strongest sectoral performance and the primary driver behind the overall gains.
Among individual stocks, TCS surged 4.16%, Tech Mahindra rose 3.53%, Infosys gained 2.99%, HCL Technologies added 2.66% and Wipro closed 2.58% higher.
Pharma and metal shares also posted gains, supporting the broader rally that lifted the indices out of their recent slump.
Markets remain closed over the weekend, with the next trading session scheduled for Monday.
The rally in IT stocks tracked a broader global technology rebound, with sentiment improving after a stretch of subdued trading in the sector.
Friday’s close leaves the Sensex and Nifty higher for the week overall, even after the two-session dip earlier that had weighed on the indices.
Markets in India remain closed on Saturday and Sunday, with the next trading session set to resume on Monday.
Foreign and domestic institutional investor activity through the week continued to shape sentiment, alongside the ongoing earnings season commentary from IT majors.
Broader market breadth was also positive on the day, with gains seen across a wide range of sectors beyond the IT-led rally.
Analysts pointed to the tech-led bounce as a sign of stabilising sentiment after recent volatility tied to global cues and sector-specific concerns.
