Markets rebound as Sensex adds 549 points on falling crude prices

Indian markets rebounded on Monday, with the Sensex adding 549 points and the Nifty crossing 23,900, as crude oil prices fell sharply.

The Sensex opened 549.21 points higher, a gain of 0.72 per cent, at 76,608.98, while the Nifty gained 160.95 points to start at 23,928.40.

The move follows a five-session losing streak that had taken both indices to over a month’s low on Friday, when the Sensex closed at 76,059.77 and the Nifty at 23,767.45.

Crude oil prices fell 5 per cent as tensions eased in West Asia, retreating from a two-month high reached last week.

IndiGo was the top gainer on the Sensex, up 3.11 per cent, followed by Eternal, Infosys, Asian Paints and Bajaj Finance.

The broader market also advanced, with the BSE Smallcap Select Index gaining 1.05 per cent to 8,677.49.
