Delhi Airport advisory says flights unaffected by red alert rain

Delhi’s IGI Airport said flight operations were unaffected on Tuesday even as the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain over the NCR.

In its advisory, the airport, run by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), noted that adverse weather was expected through the day but that flights were currently running as scheduled.

Passengers were advised to check their flight status directly with their airlines before leaving for the airport, given the unpredictable weather.

Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also issued separate advisories urging travellers to stay informed about their flight timings during the red alert.

The IMD forecast pointed to cloudy skies, intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, with another rain spell expected in the evening or night.

The region has also been placed under an orange alert for the following 48 hours, meaning continued showers are likely even after Tuesday’s red alert eases.

The alert follows a similar warning issued a day earlier for eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra, where extremely heavy rainfall and flash flood risk were flagged as part of an active monsoon spell across northern and western India.

Earlier in the week, red alerts had also been in force over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir as the wider weather system moved through.

Alongside the flight advisories, officials warned of possible traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying parts of the city because of the heavy rain.

Commuters were told to check road conditions before travelling and avoid flooded stretches, even as the airport maintained that flight schedules had not been disrupted, and passengers were urged to keep buffer time in hand given the unsettled conditions expected through the week.

The airport operator has advised that live flight information remains available through its official website and social media channels for passengers seeking the latest updates.
