Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 45 after edging Asitha Fernando onto his stumps, while KL Rahul had earlier fallen for 18, bowled by Lahiru Kumara.
Devdutt Padikkal, coming off a century in the first Test at Galle, has continued his innings after being dropped twice in the slip cordon.
The headline team news was the Test debut of Saransh Jain, the Madhya Pradesh off-spinner who replaced Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI.

The match is being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground from August 23 to 27, with Sri Lanka fielding a much-changed side after injuries to Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis.
Sri Lanka’s playing XI for the Test includes uncapped opener Kamil Mishara, with Dhananjaya de Silva captaining the side in place of the unavailable Dinesh Chandimal.

Jain earned his maiden India call-up after an impressive first-class record of more than 1,700 runs and over 150 wickets across more than 50 matches, and a strong showing on India A’s recent tour of Sri Lanka.
