By A six-hour power cut will hit parts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, running from 11 am to 5 pm, as BESCOM undertakes maintenance work under the Kattigenahalli substation.
The areas likely to be affected are Uttar Gate 1, 2 and 3, the Embassy Office and Philips Company premises, Dwaraka Nagar, Baba Nagar, Kattigenahalli, Bagalur Cross, Bagalur Main Road, Manipal College and Vinayaka Nagar and the surrounding vicinity.
BESCOM said the outage is required for urgent infrastructure maintenance and substation repairs, including replacing old wires and clearing tree branches near power lines.
The utility said the shutdown would also permit transformer inspections aimed at reducing the risk of outages during the upcoming monsoon rains.
Residents have been advised to fully charge laptops, mobile phones and power banks before 11 am and prepare emergency lighting in advance.
BESCOM also asked residents to avoid running lifts or heavy motors during the outage window, and said power would return via staggered switching after 5 pm to avoid surge damage.
The maintenance work is being coordinated with the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, which regularly plans joint outage windows with BESCOM.
Residents can follow restoration updates through the BESCOM Mithra app or the utility’s 1912 helpline.
BESCOM supplies power across eight districts of Karnataka, including Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural, over an area of more than 41,000 square kilometres serving a population above 2 crore.
BESCOM operates through nine circles, 32 divisions and 147 sub-divisions spread across four zones, the administrative structure responsible for scheduling maintenance work such as today’s Kattigenahalli shutdown.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is coordinating the maintenance work alongside BESCOM, reflecting how transmission and distribution utilities in the state often plan joint outage windows to minimise repeat disruptions.
BESCOM has said such scheduled shutdowns, though inconvenient in the short term, are aimed at reducing the risk of unplanned outages once the monsoon season brings heavier rain and wind to the city.
