An earthquake measuring 2.9 in magnitude jolted Delhi’s North district in the early hours of Sunday, August 2, 2026, the National Center for Seismology reported.
The tremor struck at 4:14 am IST, with its epicenter located at 28.721 degrees North and 76.957 degrees East, at a depth of 8 kilometres.
Residents in the area said they felt brief shaking, with some stepping outside as a precaution, though no injuries or property damage have been reported.

Delhi-NCR falls under Seismic Zone-4, a category denoting the region’s susceptibility to recurring mild earthquakes caused by active fault lines beneath the area.
No advisory has been issued by authorities so far, consistent with standard practice for low-magnitude quakes causing no structural damage.
